Abstract
AbstractSurface modifications of carbon nanotube (CNT) cathodes have been performed using laser photons, ion beams and plasmas to obtain uniformly high electron emissions at low applied electric fields for field emission display (FED) application. Laser and focused ion irradiations and plasma exposures were found to enhance electron emission and decrease threshold electric fields for emission. Among various surface treatments, ultra‐violet laser irradiation was found to enhance electron emission by 4 orders of magnitude with homogeneous emission.
