Abstract

Self-compacting concrete (SCC), a flowable concrete and can compact due to its self-weight. SCC is the most viable option for site conditions with constrained access and locations of congested reinforcements. Some examples are beam-column joint, bridges and foundations. This chapter deals with an overview of the combination type SCC was developed with binary and ternary SCC mixes. Cement was replaced by silica fume (SF), metakaolin (MK), and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) in binary form. In ternary form, cement was replaced by the following combinations: SF and MK, SF and GGBS, MK and GGBS with the optimum dosages of superplasticizer (SP), and viscosity modifying agent (VMA) to produce greener SCC for sustainable concrete products. The parametric study includes fresh and strength properties of SCC. The microstructure of conventional vibrated concrete, SCC without mineral admixtures, and SCC with mineral admixtures in binary and ternary forms have been examined through scanning electron microscope (SEM) images.
