Abstract
This chapter explores two aspects of plato's account. The first concerns his views about the aesthetic value of choric poetry, i.e. what makes a choric poem beautiful. The second concerns his views about the content of the knowledge of the choric poet, i.e. what kind of knowledge the choric poet possesses qua choric poet. The chapter examines the psychological effects of artistic mimesis on the souls of the young as described in the Laws. It analyzes Plato's account of the correctness of artistic creation qua species of mimesis. The chapter then focuses on the correctness of a work of art qua object of the intention of the artist. It finally explores Plato's views about the artistic knowledge choric poets possess. Keywords: choric poetry; laws; Plato
