Abstract

Endoscopic mitral valve surgery provides excellent surgical exposure to the valve, allows direct tactile interaction with the valve, and does not involve extremely expensive new technology. Through this versatile approach, mostly any mitral valve repair can be performed as well as mitral replacement. Concomitant procedures limited to the atria can be performed also. Endoscopic mitral valve surgery is the most appealing form of minimally invasive surgery for the experienced sternotomy mitral surgeon. It can also be used as a transition procedure to robotics.
