Abstract

Life cycle cost (LCC) calculations are made to make sure that both the purchase price and the operating costs for life cycle are considered in investment decisions. This chapter presents the basic calculation methods and sensitivity analysis of ventilation designs. In ventilation designs, these calculations are used routinely for equipment comparison. Considering the energy and maintenance costs during the life cycle, the cheapest investment is not always the best. Life cycle cost calculations is an application of investment calculations that have been used in planning and design in industry. The investment costs should be estimated as accurately as possible. Energy cost, operation cost, and maintenance cost must also be considered for LCC calculations. Decommissioning or disposal costs can be calculated in the same manner as maintenance costs. As environmental protection and recycling become more important, dumping and recycling charges and taxes will be used to control environmental pollution in the future.
