Abstract

Acid dyes possess smaller structure,; in spite of formation of ionic bond with fibre they possess poor wash fastness causing staining of adjacent garments during washing. Selective acid dyes possessing chelating sides in structure may coordinate with various metal atoms to form metal-acid dye complex, named metal-complex dye. Due to increase in overall size of dye, wash fastness is greatly improved with a problem of poor affinity and substantivity of dye for fibre. Metal-complex dyes have miscellaneous important non-textile applications too.
