16 - Boris Hagelin and Crypto AG: Pioneers of encryption

Abstract

The trend toward integrated electronics has inevitably changed the demands made on the production structures and the staff of a cipher equipment supplier. The Swiss-located company Crypto AG, founded by Swedish cryptography-pioneer Boris Hagelin, has always been on the top of these developments. Crypto AG provides in its 55th year of successful history more than 130 countries the best possible services and solutions on the spot. Hagelin's representatives, Paulding and Hedden, had founded a company called Hagelin Cryptograph. The L.C. Smith & Corona company became a subcontractor for the Hagelin company, and Hagelin would personally get a fixed amount for each machine sold to the American army.
