Abstract
According to the Great Defter of the Yerevan Vilayet of the year 1590, the Ottoman authorities incorporated Melik-Arslanlu into the administrative unit of Nakhijevan. The Ottoman tax register of the Melik-Arslanlu region is a very important primary source for studying toponyms, demography and socio-economic issues. In 1590, it consisted of five villages, the location of which correspond to the current northern parts of the Nakhijevan Autonomous Republic, which borders southern Vayots Dzor. According to the Ottoman Tax Register, only one village was inhabited, Germachatagh, where the population consisted of merely 4 families.
