Abstract

This chapter reports a comprehensive overview of the synthesis of the pigment—metal chelate Mq2 [M=Zn, Cd, Ca and Sr; Zn: Zinc, Cd: Cadmium, Ca: Calcium, Sr: Strontium, q:8-hydroxy quinoline] using precipitation method at room temperature. 8-Hydroxyquinoline-based luminous paints were formulated with these four pigments and then coated onto a steel substrate. Analysis of various parameters reveals its ability to pass in various tests like flexibility test, impact test, and adhesion test. However, it fails in humidity and salt spray test. The scope to improvise the performance of painted panels with respect to humidity and salt spray are discussed in detail.
