Abstract
Shale gas derived with either small quantities or long distances to gas processing has created a great challenge for conventional gas processing and utilization. Modular production based on various gas-to-liquids technologies is identified to have great potentials in the monetization of such shale gas resources. In this chapter, we present a comprehensive overview of modular fuels/chemicals production from shale gas. This includes available modular production technologies for shale gas conversion, recent publications on modular production from shale gas regarding economy and environmental impacts, and advantages and disadvantages of modular production. Research challenges and further directions of modular production for process system engineering are also discussed.
