Abstract

In Chapter 13 we saw how a wide variety of functions could be approximated by polynomials. A polynomial in x is a finite sum of terms of the form akxk. In this chapter we will discuss what we mean by an infinite sum. The infinite sums we describe are called infinite series. We will discuss the theory of infinite series and will show how it can give us a great deal of information about a wide variety of functions.
