Abstract

Amino acid analysis following derivatization with 6-aminoquinoly-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate (AQC) has been applied to a wide variety of samples in the past decade. Derivative stability is sufficient for automated analysis and storage. Protein compositional analysis shows excellent agreement with expected results. Fluorescence detection provides fmol sensitivity and permits accurate analysis of samples down to 50 ng. Application to a number of unusual amino acids has been demonstrated, as well as the analysis of chiral amino acids, peptides and porteins following derivatization. Matrices as diverse as sea water, cell culture fluids, biological fluids and food samples have proven amenable to the procedure.
