Abstract

The concept of the smart city, the places that efficiently create and exchange renewable energy through controlling supply and demand with information and communication technology, is now taking off worldwide. The smart city concept tries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the total optimization approach, rather than the traditional partial optimization approach. In Japan, many cities are adopting the smart city concept. Nara Medical University and its hospital, which are planned to move to another location in 2021, are trying to introduce the smart city concept into the area through cooperation with regional governments and private companies as community-based renewable energy of local production and local consumption.
