Abstract

Polymer composite materials used as structural components can be subjected to a wide variety of different loading conditions or environmental conditions. This chapter describes typical examples of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) related to loading and environmental degradation. It analyzes subcritical crack growth and fracture behavior through microstructure characterization and strength evaluation, fiber orientation on deformation and fracture, fracture toughness, fatigue behavior and the use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in the analysis of fiber reinforced polymer composites.
