Abstract

This chapter discusses Solitaire. Solitaire is played on a board with 33 squares. Such a board is easily obtained by covering the four corners of a chessboard in such a way as to leave a cruciform shape. Each square of the chessboard is marked by a pair of numbers, indicating the numbers of the horizontal and vertical rows, at the intersection of which the square is situated. In the beginning of the game each square, except an arbitrary one, is occupied by a draughts piece. The rules of the game are as follows: any piece can be removed from the board only if in the next square there is some other piece and if there is an empty square on the opposite side to which the remover is transfered.
