13 - Partial differential equations

Abstract

We introduce partial differential equations and a few methods for their solution. We then look at several engineering examples where they may be used and finish with several real-world problems. Some of the engineering examples include the wave equation (a tightly stretched guitar string, heat distribution in a metal plate, the flow of current in a submarine cable, and high-frequency line equation).
