Abstract

Nanotechnology is the emerging field of applied science and technology where molecular-level control of matter occurs, smaller than 1 μm, and it has a great standing in industries in improving products, treating diseases, and serving humanity in all areas of life. This field has changed many aspects of food science and the food industry with enhanced investment. Recent advances in nanomaterials and nanodevices are intended to bring about innovative applications in the food and bioprocessing industries. Biosensor applications in food quality monitoring, smart food packaging systems, and nanoencapsulation of bioactive food compounds are a few examples of emerging applications of nanotechnology for the food industry. Several scientific challenges in the food and bioprocessing industries for making high-quality and safe food can be solved through nanoscience and technology. This chapter provides an overview of the applications of nanotechnology in the food and bioprocess industry, the challenges of nanotechnology applications, and the future prospect of nanotechnology in the food and bioprocessing industry.
