Abstract

Fabric phase sorptive extraction (FPSE) has been presented as a powerful sampling and sample preparation device for a wide variety of analyte(s) with biological, forensic, food, pharmaceuticals, bioanalytical, toxicological, national security, and public health significance. The sampling/sample preparation device, FPSE membrane, is constituted with a flexible fabric substrate and a sol-gel-derived high-efficiency sorbent coating, immobilized on the surface of the substrate. The remarkable flexibility of the host fabric substrate and the superior attributes of sol-gel hybrid organic-inorganic sorbent system equip the FPSE membrane with unique ability to outperform almost all the current sample preparation technologies available in the field of separation science.
