Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of medicolegal issues that affect oral and maxillofacial procedures performed in a dental or surgical practice. This chapter provides a comprehensive review of documentation of patient care from the initial evaluation, informed consent, performance of a procedure, complications, and issues that may arise if a patient considers a lawsuit. Information about the current status of the electronic medical record, HIPAA, protection of patient information, and cybersecurity are addressed.
