Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of the biochar and modified biochar applications as adsorbents for the removal of dyes from effluents. Due to the current water crisis and the predicted vast water-stressed regions of the world, the treatment of the large volumes of colored effluents into receiving waters can provide a significant relief to many countries. Biochars, as adsorbents, offer a lower cost adsorption solution compared to most conventional adsorbents. The adsorption process offers a low cost, easy controllable, and high-quality treatment opportunity compared to most other textile effluent treatment processes. A number of tables are presented summarizing the key adsorption properties of several biochars and their color removal capability.
