Abstract
Abstract Introduction The absence of an effective governmental comprehensive sexuality education program in Tunisia has made space for youth to seek various sources of information on sexual education particularly the internet and its digital content. Generation Z individuals increased usage of social media and the web, makes them avid consumers of sexuality-related digital content. However, the digital information on sexual health and sexual rights is not always verified, controlled, or adapted to the consumers’ needs. Objective This study aims to determine if the uncontrolled digital sexuality education resources and materials are deemed comprehensive by evaluating the knowledge of their users regarding sexual health and rights and studying the impact of such educational resources on the attitudes and practices of young Tunisian adults towards sexual health and rights. Methods This is a descriptive, cross-sectional, Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) study, targeting the Tunisian Generation Z population, born between 1996 and 2005. The study was conducted through an online self-administered questionnaire to provide a nuanced analysis of the topic through the collection of both quantitative and qualitative data from the participants. It was conducted over a 5-week period, by sharing the questionnaire on social media platforms. Results This study included 411 respondents of whom 63% self-identified as women and 30% as men. The participants were from various backgrounds and diverse sociodemographics. 34% of the participants are dissatisfied with non-digital resources covering sexual education. Pornography and social media were the main sources of information on sexuality. (Figure 1). Fig. 2 illustrates the topics searched online. Non-reproductive and pleasurable sexual experiences were sought with a lack of knowledge and positive attitudes on topics such as consent, gender-based violence, and sexual orientation. Conclusions This is a snapshot of the intricate intersection between digital content and sexuality education in Tunisian Gen Z. Whereas sexual pleasure and non-reproductive sex seem to be important for this generation, they still lack knowledge about sexual rights. Disclosure No.
