Abstract

The plasma reactor utilizing three different power supplies was investigated for their ability to control the NO_x emissions in the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. The reactors include AC energized pellet-bed reactor and two pulse (rotation spark gap, RSG and Silicon-Controlled Rectifier, SCR) energized reactors with/without pellets. The operation characteristics and optimum condition for the respective rectors were investigated. The results of these experiments showed that reactors using a RSG pulse reactor performed better than an AC and SCR pulse reactor, primary due to the pulse rise time. The RSG pulsed corona reactor with pellet showed best NO oxidation and was able to oxide nearly 100% of NO at 50_%_ load.
