Abstract

We create a three-dimensional (3D) culture device in which a tumor can be established in vitro . The cultural cancer cells mimic the morphologic, biologic, and cellular characteristics of malignant tumors in vivo . This 3D tumor model may expedite the anticancer drug discovery process. Our 3D culture system also promotes tumor antigen recognition and the proliferation and differentiation of the immune cells that demonstrate a broad range of potent antitumor effects, including directly eradicating tumor cells through cytolysis by CTLs or phagocytosis by activated macrophages. Our approach fundamentally improves the in vitro preparation of immune cells for immunotherapy and immunoprophylaxis.
