Abstract

This chapter addresses the need for an innovation eco-system to support the evolution of urban logistics. The different perspectives on quality of services are individualized and sources of innovation are identified. In urban logistics, the innovation trend has been supported mainly by information technology and new vehicles, and both have brought efficiency improvements and flexibility to the logistic processes and accelerated innovation processes. This first section questioned the concept of innovation and pushed the discussion to extremes. For example, is the purpose of innovation to produce something unique that does not exist? Or can any change in a process or product be considered innovation?
