Abstract

The method of interfacial polycondensation was first applied by Einhorn1 in 1898 to obtain a polycarbonate by means of the interaction of phosgene dissolved in toluene with a hydroquinone water–alkali solution. Subsequently, however, this work was forgotten, and only in the 1950s did it become clear that interfacial polycondensation opens up extensive possibilities for the synthesis of a great variety of polymers.2,3
