Abstract

Critical assessments have been made of the available information on the constitutions of the Cr-Fe-V and Fe-Ni-V systems. In neither case have the liquidus surfaces been examined, but in view of the relative simplicity of of the relevant binary equilibria, hypothetical liquidus projections may be tentatively suggested. The systems are of interest in relation to the formation of complete series of solid solutions, at the appropriate temperatures, between the σ-phases which occur in the binary systems Cr-Fe, Fe-V, and Ni-V. The constitutions in the solid state are reasonably clear. For the system Cr-Fe-V, however, calculated equilibria only are available for the lower temperatures, and the non-equilibrium phenomena important in controlling the mechanical properties are briefly discussed. In the Fe-Ni-V system, the relationships between the ordered phases FeNi3 and Ni3V are outlined.
