Abstract

Screening and diagnosis for diseases of the breast involve coordination between patients and their multidisciplinary team of physicians. The roles of patients and physicians in the evaluation of breast disease are herein discussed, with a focus on the clinical encounter with the patient. This chapter discusses considerations for breast cancer risk assessment and breast cancer screening guidelines, and also reviews the many modalities available for assisting the physician during the clinical encounter, with breast disease evaluation ranging from breast examination to breast imaging including, but not limited to, mammogram, ultrasound, and breast magnetic resonance imaging.
