Abstract
This chapter presents common analytical technologies used to study and/or monitor sample composition during chemical pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosic materials. Analytical determinations of carbohydrates and degradation products present in biomass hydrolysates are reviewed. Capabilities for universal and selective detection are highlighted along with critical evaluation of the presented analytical strategies.
