Abstract

This chapter provides the disclaimer that the set of information presented in the book does not cover the whole of control theory, nor does it follow closely any academic program. Only that cross-section of control systems field is presented that will be of greatest benefit to the embedded systems engineer who is to design control systems. Being a technical book, it has many equations and examples of analysis or simulated results. This chapter lists several pieces of software that were used to generate the equations and the graphs given in the book. The features of the software are elaborated, which justify why they were preferred over other software. Most of the equations that are derived symbolically were done, or at least checked for accuracy, using Mathcad. Nearly all of the graphs in the manuscript were calculated and generated in Scilab. All example code was compiled and tested using gnu C or C++ hosted in a cygwin shell on a PC running Windows. The manuscript for this book was entered in the office suite OOo Writer, and many of the figures were originally generated in OOo Draw.
