Abstract

The cold crucible is applied widely to the levitation melting and casting industries of silicon or titanium because of contamination free. In this paper, the 3 dimensional finite element calculation of electromagnetic fields is presented and is applied to the cold crucible design. Considering slit's configuration of crucible and frequency of electromagnetic fields as design parameters, the number and the clearance of slits are discussed from a point of levitation effects. It is clarified that the electromagnetic frequency and slit's configuration affect remarkably on characteristics of the cold crucible
