Abstract

There has been a growing research interest in the development of light-emitting materials (phosphors) especially in the visible region for use in applications such as photonics, sensing, photoactivity, and solar cells. Phosphors made from rare earth–doped oxide hosts have been extensively investigated due to their intense luminescence features and thermal and chemical stability. In the past few decades, research interest in oxide materials has grown exponentially as observed from a growing number of publications based on these materials. Luminescence intensity of rare earth–doped oxide materials has been found to depend on the doping concentration and synthesis route. Therefore, in this chapter, the authors demonstrate the dependence of luminescence properties on different rare-earth dopant ions. The studied materials were evaluated for application in different types of light-emitting devices.
