(I) PROF. BRODETSKY has followed up his great success in organising the Newton celebration at Grantham by publishing what is easily the best short book on Newton's life and work. It is really even more than this, for it would be difficult to find anywhere a clearer and more instructive account of the genesis and meaning of the differential and integral calculus, as well as the way in which the law of gravitation brings together and completes the work of Galileo and Kepler.
