Abstract

The chapter deals with main concepts related to mechanics of fibrous networks, using simple cases of their structure. Based on introduction of discontinuous finite-element models, it considers effects of various aspects of networks and boundary conditions on their deformation. Among these factors are the following: orientation of fibres; fibre curvature; density of crosslinks between the fibres.
