Abstract
Being an emerging field of research in nanotechnology, bionanocomposite has gained attention in various fields of sciences such as biomedical, food packaging, agriculture, biosensors, and wastewater treatment. Bionanocomposites are the hybrid materials composed of biodegradable material and a nanodimensional material. Biopolymers are the most preferred biodegradable material while considering the aesthetics of environmental sustainability. As far as nanodimensional material is concerned, different nanosized inorganic moieties with enhanced properties have been extensively used for the last few years. This chapter mainly provides an overview of bionanocomposites including their classification, characterization, processing along with their remarkable properties and applications.
