Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the microstructures of spherical and coffin-shaped MFI zeolite and its influence on catalytic activity for cumene cracking. While spherical MFI is composed of nanoparticles, coffin-shaped ones possess a layered structure where nanoparticles with ca. 30 nm in size are accumulated on the dense core. Both the thickness of nanoparticles layer and mesopore volume linearly correlate with the activity for cumene cracking, suggesting that the mesopores in MFI particles formed during nanoparticles agglomeration and that the reaction rate of cumene cracking is significantly influenced by the diffusion of cumene molecule in the nanoparticles agglomerating layer.
