Abstract

The purpose of the article is to investigate the characteristic features of the Polychronion in the musical culture of Galicia in the late 19th and early 20th century. The research methodology consisted in the application of methods of historicism, analysis, generalization and systematization of sizeable theoretical and musical material. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the attempt to determine the role and characteristic features of the ancient tradition of the Polychronion in the musical culture of Galicia in the late 19th and early 20th century. Conclusions. The tradition of the Polychronion was widely represented in the cultural life of Galicia in the late 19th and early 20th century. Divine services and celebrations ended with the Polychronion; popular genre samples were included in the musical and didactic literature. This had a special life-affirming significance in the context of the active formation of the Ukrainian national idea and professional composers’ school.
