Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study is to understand the trend of counseling supervision ethics studies by analyzing Korean and international studies to propose the direction of future research in counseling supervision ethics in Korea from 1980 to June 2022. Methods For this purpose, we extracted 44 research papers from the Korean studies database and international studies database EBSCOhost. Research trend analysis was conducted based on the analysis criteria including five types(basic facts about research, research topics, the specific contents of supervision ethics topics, research subjects, and research method). Results First, Supervisees were the most common research subjects in both studies. Second, research trends in research topics were in the order of supervision ethics process research, supervision ethics process-performance research, and supervision ethics review research in Korea. In international studies, it was in the order of supervision ethics review research, supervision ethics process research, supervision ethics process-performance research, and supervision policy research. Third, research trends in the specific content of research studies were in the order of supervisor ethics practices, supervision process, supervision ethics general, and supervision ethics elements in Korea. In international studies, it was in the order of supervisor competence, supervision relationship, and supervision ethics in general. Fourth, quantitative research was the most common study method in both studies. Conclusions This study suggested that future Korean counseling supervision ethics research needs to deal with ethical issues reflecting the characteristics of Korean culture and recognition of the uniqueness of supervision relationships compared to foreign studies. In addition, domestic supervision ethics research has suggested that research on the importance and practical perspective of supervision ethics related to supervision relationships, supervision process, and supervisor competencies is more necessary than research focusing on specific topics.
