Abstract

This paper aims to identify the characteristics of Chinese knowledge production by analyzing cases of the use of social network analysis methodology in the Chinese political science community. In the analysis based on the literature information provided by China’s CNKI, knowledge production using SNA methodology in the Chinese social science community developed rapidly in the late 1990s, but it is still focused on library and information science, sociology and economics. Research results related to political science are also very limited except for terrorist organization research, social security, national governance, and policy network research in terms of research topics, and some analysis methods such as cohesive subgroup analysis, centrality analysis, role analysis is focused on Comprehensive analysis of the research results shows that studies using SNA methodologies in Chinese political science have a strong practical and policy character, remain focused on consuming methodologies developed in the United States. It was identified that this was because access to data required for the selection of research topics and methodologies and network analysis was limited.
