Abstract
The paper presents an overview of contemporary Polish semantic contrastive studies dealing with Bulgarian and other Slavic languages. Some predecessors of the works in question are also discussed (as far as they have inspired the adopted methodology). A simple periodization is introduced, taking into consideration the publication of the Bulgarian-Polish Contrastive Grammar (Българско-полска съпоставителна грама-тика / Gramatyka konfrontatywna bułgarsko-polska). The author discusses the theoretical foundations and methodology of the semantic contrastive studies undertaken in different periods from the1970s to the present day. Earlier non-contrastive works related to these studies are also included in the paper. Keywords: Bulgarian language, contrastive studies, Polish linguistics, semantics, semantic interlanguage
