Abstract

MORRISON, D. P., OSBORNE, R. V., AND UNRAU, P. fl-Ray-Induced Gene Conversion in Yeast. Radiat. Res. 87, 50-58 (1981). The effect of tritiated water on the induction of gene conversion at the TRP5 locus in Saccharomyces cerevisiae was examined at three specific activities, ca. 1.5, 0.15, and 0.015 GBq/ml (or 41, 4.1, and 0.41 mCi/ml), to establish whether gene conversion induction rates varied with fl-ray dose rate. Linear dose responses were observed at all three dose rates. Exposure at the lower dose rates did not induce more convertants per unit dose than at the highest dose rate. 3H , rays were not more efficient at conversion induction than 150-kVp X rays and 60Co y rays. These results do not agree with those of T. Ito and K. Kobayashi (Radiat. Res. 76, 139-144 (1978)).
