Abstract

The method of instant fixation of EMF using certified Celox II Standard sensors was used to study the activity of oxygen in Ni-O melts during deoxidation of Y to 0.2 wt.%. The changes in a[O] from the concentrations of deoxidizers were presented in the form of a logarithmic dependence and showed a fivefold increase in the deoxidizing ability of Y compared with the similar ability of Al in Ni-O melts at their concentrations of 0.05 wt.%. In the Ni-O-Al (5 wt.%) system, upon deoxidation of Y, an increase in its deoxidizing ability by a factor of 1.6 was found compared to the binary system.
