Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the image of the ‘Aquarius’ era, which symbolizes the hero of a new era through the film Aquaman directed by James Wan. The film Aquaman depicts a symbolic image of a celestial body representing the time of the universe. In other words, in this film, the concept of cosmic time and celestial order of shamanism are portrayed in characters and images. The culture and tradition of the Scythian nomadic warriors who migrated across the Eurasian continent in the ancient times left a strong impression on Europeans and remained as an image and culture to Westerners to this day. The culture and shamanic traditions of the Scythian nomadic warriors are realistically reproduced in this film. The leader who has secured the sacredness of the cosmic order system reproduced in the movie Aquaman is embodied as Aquaman, portrayed as a hero of a new era. Aquaman, the protagonist of this film, is portrayed as a hero and leader of a new era through the ‘trident,’ a symbol of divinity given from heaven according to the Shaman tradition. In this film, the image of the existing “fish” era and the image of the new era, “aquarius”, show conflicting patterns. In conclusion, this film symbolically depicts the advent of a new era through the concept of cosmic time, which changes every 2,160 years.
