Abstract

The article is devoted to the history of the wood delignification methods development in order to obtain cellulose. Their use in paper production since its inception is briefly described. The technologies of sodium, sulfate and sulfite delignification of wood are described in detail. The development of bleaching and ennobling methods of technical pulps, improvement of their hardware design and their influence on the quality of finished products is shown. The dynamics of the pulp industry development in the leading countries of the world, its current state and development prospects are given. This article is the fourth in the cycle “Wood as a chemical raw material. History and modernity”; the first, second and third parts are published in the journal «Forestry Bulletin», 2020, vol. 24, no. 1, no. 5 and 2021, vol. 25, no. 3.
