Abstract

Interpolyelectrolyte complexes (IPECs) between Eudragit® EPO (EPO) and Carbomer 940 (C940) were obtained and investigated with a view to their use in peroral controlled drug delivery systems. Due to the structural features of IPECs, their swelling profiles are completely different from those of individual (co)polymers and related physical mixtures. The structural and compositional microenvironmental changes in the IPEC matrix during swelling at various pH were studied by FTIR spectroscopy, MT - DSC method, and elementary analysis. A mechanism responsible for the release of a model drug (ibuprofen) from the polycomplex matrix is established.
