Abstract

This master thesis aims to develop an e-chartering web - based platform for the finding of ships and cargoes, the sending offers and the attaching e-signed charter parties. This application can be accessed by ship owners and the charterers (cargo owners). Users can make vessel or cargo registration and find the available vessel or cargo that matches their criteria. Also, they have the ability to create charters and see useful statistics that show the most advantageous offers for their future needs. Furthermore, there is an evaluation mechanism for the ship owners by the charterers after the attachment of a charter. The ship owners have a rating for their transfer services and for their liability. This facilitates charterers to choose among the best ship owners of the application. The E- chartering application has the basics standards for this kind of systems but it is essential to add more features and improvements in order to be used by other companies in real time. This master thesis consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, there is a description of the charter types, the involved counterparties and the negotiations procedures in real time. In the second chapter, a reference is made for the applications that are used in shipping industry and especially in the chartering department describing the Vessel Bot system. In the third chapter there is a presentation of the e-chartering application using images and also the future improvements that could make the app more professional and user friendly. In the fourth chapter, there is an analysis of the system architecture, the technologies and the programming languages that has been used for the development of this application.
