Abstract De.thi.o.sul.fat.ar'cu.lus. L. pref. de , from; N.L. n. thiosulfas ‐atis , thiosulfate; N.L. masc. n. arculus , a small bow; N.L. masc. n. Dethiosulfatarculus , a bow‐shaped thiosulfate reducer. Desulfobacterota / Desulfarcalia / Desulfarculales / Desulfarculaceae / Dethiosulfatarculus Vibrio‐shaped cells that occur singly, in pairs, or in larger aggregates. Spore formation is not observed. Gram‐stain‐negative. The type species is motile. Strict anaerobe with respiratory or fermentative type of metabolism. Chemolithoautotroph and chemoorganoheterotroph, using H 2 plus CO 2 , pyruvate, oxaloacetate, yeast extract, and alanine as electron donors and carbon sources; organic compounds are oxidized to acetate. For autotrophic growth, the carbon monoxide dehydrogenase pathway (Wood–Ljungdahl pathway) is used. Only thiosulfate serves as a terminal electron acceptor and is reduced to H 2 S. Sulfate and sulfite are not reduced. Fermentative growth on pyruvate, oxaloacetate, and yeast extract. Mesophilic, with an optimal temperature for growth between 30 and 37°C. Neutrophilic, with an optimal pH for growth between 6.0–7.2. Anoxic media (with sulfide as a reductant) are necessary for growth. Dethiosulfatarculus sandiegensis was isolated from a methanogenic, long‐chain‐paraffin degrading consortium enriched from the marine sediments of San Diego Bay, CA, USA. DNA G + C content (mol%) : 52.0 (genome data). Type species : Dethiosulfatarculus sandiegensis Davidova, Wawrick, Callaghan, Duncan, Marks and Suflita 2016, 1247 VP .
