Abstract
The experimental phase shifts of π- π scattering in the J= I= 0 ( σ-meson) and J= I=1 ( ϱ-meson) channels are reproduced using phenomenological T-matrices. In a nuclear medium the pion dispersion relation is strongly changed and so is the interacting 2 π propagator. Corresponding σ-meson and ϱ-meson strength distributions are extracted and shown to accumulate considerable strength around the 2 π threshold. For the ϱ-meson this may be related to recent experimental results from dilepton production.
