Abstract
Nowadays, the medical field deploys more and more cognitive tools and technological means. The medical field is a field of research and application of new technological achievements. The need to create a liturgical, flexible and effective health system capable of serving the needs of citizens without high costs has been the driving force behind change. The main objectives of this dissertation are to highlight the exceptional importance of digital solutions, more specifically of health applications and modern health challenges, which apply pressure to the sustainability of the health system and burden the public health system. Mobile health applications are evolving rapidly with the help of mobile phones and the ambit of e-health applications are now entrenched. Through the exchange of information and data interconnection between citizens and health care providers, personalized health care, early diagnosis and management of chronic diseases is now conceivable. It also enhances prevention, a healthy lifestyle and adherence to treatment (mAdherence). But the reality of the 21st century enlists the Information and Communication Technologies tools (ICT) to survey and monitor the public health. In particular, the Covid-19 pandemic, led humanity to a health crisis due to absence of vaccine and treatment, resulting to a rapid and rampant spread of the virus. For this, technology was used to fill this gap. The bibliographic research was structured in six chapters. The first chapter presents e-health and the concepts that surround it, the second chapter expounds mobile health programs based on the WHO and examines the degree of their adoption by Member States. The third chapter elaborates the applications of mobile health. In the fourth chapter, the health challenges of the 21st century are analyzed and in the fifth the Covid-19 pandemic is studied as a case in combination with the tools of ICT. Finally, the conclusions are stated.
