Abstract

Purpose: This purpose of study was to explore school counselors’ perceptions regarding the curriculum of the level-2 school counseling graduate program and to suggest improvement plans. Methods: Eight school counselors who graduated from a level-2 school counseling graduate program were recruited. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: Five categories and twenty subcategories were found. In terms of helpful aspects, ‘improving competence as a professional school counselor’, ‘better understanding of school settings’ were identified. Regarding unhelpful aspects, ‘lack of learning on practical competence’, ‘lack of guiding on diverse roles’, and ‘lack of practice and relevant system’ were also identified. Conclusion: Based on these findings, improvement plans such as training on practical school issues and suggestions for the practice system were discussed.
