Abstract

Introduction. The article discusses teaching of professionally oriented reading to pupils of technical professional lyceums. It deals with psychological peculiarities of pupils of professional lyceums. The actuality of the common article is determined by the necessity to answer the key question according to the main psychological features of adolescence, to define the age crisis of early youth, to reveal the changes of the leading activity of pupils of technical professional lyceums. Purpose. The aim of the article is the definition of psychological basics of English language competence formation in professionally oriented reading at youth age. Methods. General research methods such as analysis of scientific psychological literature and generalization of scientists` views according to the problem were applied. Results. The development of pupils of professional lyceums is under analysis. The main psychological formations of youth age are distinguished: self-determination, professional determination, sensitivity, individual style of intellectual activity and stable identity. Age crisis of pupils of technical professional lyceums are mentioned: identity crisis, puberty crisis, crisis of adolescence, existentialcrisis, 15 age crisis and 17 age crisis. The most difficult crisis of pupils of technical professional lyceums is a crisis of identity. Pupils of technical professional lyceums at the age of 15-18 do not achieve the identity, they are in the status of the moratorium, because they choose their profession and achieve success in their leading activity. A leading activity of pupils of professional lyceums that affects the process of the formation of English language competence in reading and causes changes in cognitive, motivational, emotional and volitional spheres is considered. Conclusion. The psychological basics of formation of pupils of technical professional lyceums English language competence in professionally oriented reading are: taking into consideration the psychological peculiarities of development of pupils of technical professional lyceums at youth age; overcoming of the age crisis at early youth with the help of special strategies, methods and techniques; prevention and avoidance of contradiction in a leading activity that causes changes in cognitive, motivational, emotional and volitional spheres.
